Back in August, Sydney Sweeney’s little brother, Trent Sweeney, weighed in on her American Eagle controversy after he was promoted to staff sergeant in the US Air Force.

If you need reminding, in July, 28-year-old Sydney was unveiled as the face of American Eagle's new denim campaign, which had the tagline: “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans [genes].” The video commercial blatantly focused on the star’s blonde hair and blue eyes, and it was pretty immediately accused of implicitly glorifying whiteness and promoting eugenics — sparking fierce backlash.

To make things worse, the White House ended up speaking out in defense of the ad, with President Donald Trump even heaping praise on Sydney after BuzzFeed confirmed that she had officially registered as a Republican in 2024.

And at the height of the furor, Trent made light of the whole thing on his Instagram page. After completing basic training in August 2020, Trent posted a photo of the official certification of his promotion alongside the caption: “It’s them good jeans 🥸.”

He also shared a photo of himself receiving the certificate to his main grid with the caption: “I’m excited for this next step in my career and thank everyone that’s been a part of it so far,” which Sydney liked.
And now, the star has revealed that her brother is currently deployed amid the Iran war. On Wednesday, she shared a screenshot of herself and Trent on a FaceTime call — with Trent smiling in his Army gear — to her Instagram story. Sydney wrote: “receiving calls from my bro always make me happy when he’s deployed ❤️”

“thinking of all our boys and girls overseas and sending my love!” she went on. “thank you for your service :)”

If you're wondering, Trent has not posted to his own Instagram account since the end of January.
Sydney and Trent have always been incredibly close, with Trent even joining her at the European premiere of Echo Valley in London last June.

Sydney has also spoken openly about how important her family is to her. In a 2023 interview with Women’s Health, she said: “I love my family, and I love where I came from. Anything my family needs, I’m always there for them.”
