A hit list of our undying favourite films that make perfect wintery movie nights.
Being a '90s baby is a badge of honour. We’re the generation who have lived across two centuries, two millennia, the evolution of the internet, compact disks to iPod Nanos, and now we’re running the world (hey Mamdani) — so you can believe we have the best taste in music…and film.
PolyGram Filmed Entertainment
Every cold season, these are the classic, heart-warming movies our cold bitter souls call out for. Below we’ve got the perfect winter’s pick 'n’ mix, from indisputable rom-coms, critical Christmas movies, musical comedies and everything in between. And if you’re not lucky enough to be a '90s baby, take it from your big bros — you’re going to love these.
1. Sister Act 2
Buena Vista Pictures Distribution
Rarely does a sequel outperform its master. This movie delivers warmth and soul like a big bowl of pasta. Also, find me a '90s kid that can’t sing & dance to that final number.
2. Pride and Prejudice

United International Pictures
Some of our own people may be divided on this one but the 2005 version ft. Kiera Knightly *has* to be reigning champion. Have you SEEN the hand flex?! We love a man who can yearn.
United International Pictures
Where to watch: Netflix
3. The Holiday

Sony Pictures Releasing
The world over will likely agree on this. Cottage of dreams. Jude Law. Wit, tiny shopping trolleys, and gumption. Hello big dollop.

Where to watch: Netflix
4. Hook

TriStar Pictures
To an OG '90s kid, the late Robin Williams and Dame Maggie Smith are the Achilles heel(s). One for the left foot and one for the right foot. This Peter Pan ‘sequel’ is just captivating. It’s also directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Dustin Hoffman and Julia Roberts.
TriStar Pictures
Where to watch: Amazon Prime
5. James Bond SkyFall

Sony Pictures Releasing
Whether or not you’re a hardcore fan, this Bond movie is so moody, dramatic, and breathtaking. And that’s just the Scottish Highlands. A beautiful work of art, if you ask me.
Sony Pictures Releasing
Where to watch: ITVX
6. Bridget Jones’ Diary

United International Pictures
If Bridget belting out Celine Dion alone in her PJs isn’t every bit the '90s kid, I don’t know what is. Also did you know it’s based on Pride & Prejudice? Hello Mr. Darcy.
United International Pictures
Where to watch: BBCiPlayer
7. Free Willy

Warner Bros.
*Of course* we’re all going to relate to a 12 year old orphaned boy named Jesse who befriends a captive orca.

8. A Little Princess

Warner Bros.
Who remembers this absolutely heartbreaking American fantasy drama? “Even if they live in tiny old attics, even if they dress in rags, even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young, they're still princesses — all of us!" A masterpiece.
Warner Bros.

10. Home Alone & Home Alone 2

20th Century Fox
Because, where these two gems reign over Christmas movie lists, no '90s kid would ever commit the crime of going beyond this point (there were four other remakes).

11. Elf

New Line Cinema
Speaking of reigning, this adorable free spirit is still making us all smile in 2025.
New Line Cinema

12. Miracle on 34th Street

20th Century Fox
Nobody can describe how beloved the Attenborough brothers are to the '90s generation. Richard Attenborough captured hearts in probably the warmest Christmas movie still making the rounds year on year. It even has a certain glow in its cinematography. Also didn’t we *all* have a little crush on Mr. Bryan Bedford?
20th Century Fox
Where to watch: Disney+
13. The Santa Clause

Buena Vista Pictures Distribution
Tim Allen in his prime (wit and sarcasm included) ft. a strong dedication to recreating every inch of Santa’s workshop — this was (and still is) a comfort watch through and through.
Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

14. The Grinch

Universal Pictures
From hating people to not having anything to wear to cancelling plans, there are way too many parallels between us '90s kids and the Grinch. Way too many.
Universal Pictures

15. Wizard of Oz

Warner Bros.
We may have fallen in love with Wicked on stage and the big screen, but there’s something so re-watchable about this vintage time capsule.

16. Annie

Sony Pictures Releasing
I’ll say it. I think we may have taken the song “It’s a Hard Knock Life For Us” a little too personally. The struggle is real. Luckily, it was likely storylines ft. courage and boldness like this one that raised us. The 2014 remake is as adorable and full of talent as Aileen Quinn’s original.
Sony Pictures Releasing
Where to watch: Netflix
17. Little Women

Columbia Pictures
Both the 1994 movie and the 2019 remake did an excellent job with casting the March sisters. This is a coming-of-age that mirrored the closeness and charm we knew and loved in our own families.

19. Edward Scissorhands

20th Century Fox
Long before Edward and Bella, Tim Burton served us '90s kids this improbable love story (and we haven't looked back). It's a timeless, wholesome story that'll make you want to dance in the snow.
